Travelogue

Lest I allow yet another month to go by without posting something, (although it nearly has already) I've decided to describe my vacations of 2009. I won't get into weekend trips, for expediency's sake.

I'd already posted beforehand about (what was at the time) the plan for my annual sojourn to Hawaii in January, but here are a couple of the pictures that I took while I was there:

Close approximations of the shots in that prior post?
(The difference being that I took these shots myself)

I have mostly been taking my vacations in conjunction with paid days off for the past several years, so as to get four weeks of vacation out of three weeks of vacation time; the following descriptions are of those weeks that I took off, with a few pictures for each.

Memorial Day Week - Hiking on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia:

Independence Day Week - Cruising 'round BVI on a 44' catamaran:

Labor Day Week - Touring Europe; mostly Italy, 1 day in Slovenia:

(Predjama Castle, above, is in Slovenia)

Thanksgiving Week - Working on the FL Trail, and visiting Springs:

(Armadillo)(MANATEES!!!)

Also, sharing Thanksgiving dinner with family, of course.

But wait! (As they say in the TV ads) There's more!!!

I plan to visit South America during the last week of this year too, seeing such things as Machu Picchu and the Nazca Lines:

(I have off Christmas through New Year's Day, too.)

The Military-Industrial Complex™ does quite well by me.

Next year? It all begins again, Lord willin'... ;-)

Your photos continue to be amazing. I'm betting location has much to do with it but skill is skill all the same.

And, of course my jealosy still rears it's ugly head...over both the amount of time you have off and what you manage to afford, travel wise.

Good for you on both counts!

Wonderful pictures and nice narrative about your trips, Jack. Of course, I've had the pleasure of seeing some of those shots previously. ;-) Have fun in Peru, my friend...

Obviously, I found my password. Luckily, I had it written down in a file... ;-)

I'm glad you like my photography; I have had some instruction in the art thereof, FWIW.

Regarding your jealosy, remember that it's one of those Seven Deadly Sins. Anyway, as I said in the post, I take vacations so as to get four weeks of vacation out of three weeks of vacation time. Having 20+ years at the same place affords me a lot of vacation time, too.

Bunny:
Not much narrative, comparatively speaking, but what I hope are interesting links anyway...and yes, you have seen some of those pictures before.

Speaking of Peru, I really have to get that trip booked pretty soon, it's only a few weeks away...

Looks like it was a good year for traveling! Looks like you had fun. The scenery is great. I'm glad for you.

As you know, I was able to do Disney and Wyoming this year. Since being laid off in September, I have put my vacation plans on hold for awhile. If things don't change, I might drive down to see my brother in Georgia.

(:D) Best regards...

Heh...yeah, you might wanna get on that Peru booking pretty soon. **sigh** Silly boy. :-)

No, not much of your own "narrative," but the links are a part of the narrative, nonetheless.

Hawkeye®:
It was a good year for traveling, thanks; better than usual, I daresay...and I did have fun.

Being laid off does tend to put a damper on things. Here's hoping you get back to being employed in a timely manner. In the meantime, why not go and visit your brother?

Bunny:
I plan to book the Peru trip this weekend.

Indeed, the links are part of the narrative... :-)

Alas, I chose to have too many kids and not enough money so I travel as much in twenty years as you do in one. The world truly has myriad beauties. Thanks for sharing. Anyone who is a friend of Hawkeye is a friend of mine!

Welcome to my li'l corner of "da blogosphere".

I had myself modified in the 80s to prevent having "too many kids", and the few I have are grown, so...I definitely like to take advantage of the opportunity to see the world. As you say, it truly does have myriad beauties...
