How fast is too fast?
As with many questions, it depends upon whom you ask.
(My brother the racer goes more than twice as fast)
Anyway, once upon a time the daytime speed limit on the Interstate in Montana was "reasonable and prudent"...but because many folks were going faster than they could apparently handle (and killing themselves in the process) a set limit was eventually established.
Before that happened, I took the following picture:
Sorry about the poor quality, but that's actually a digital photograph of the original 35mm image, which looks better; maybe Shelly could help me with that.
Holding a camera steady and taking a picture at 100 MPH isn't exactly easy, and I didn't know if the attempt had been successful until the film was developed, but obviously I survived what some might consider a foolhardy stunt.
Don't try this at home kids, or on the highway for that matter...

My top-out on a highway at rushour is 115-ish. I won't claim it was legal, though.
My brotther tom did 125 and it scared him so bad he sold the bike.
He wasn't expecting it just took off on the freeway and then happened to look at the speedometer.

Good to see you are having fun. Be careful, please.
My fastest? Nearly 140 in a Shelby Cobra on Interstate 71. That was in 1968 and no, I was not driving. The car belonged to my friend. He said the car was doing 140 but lucky for him a State Patrol clocked him at 105.
The statey had him by the car for about 35 minutes and then let him go. I asked my friend about a ticket and he said the patrolman was so impressed with Cobras he forgot to give him a ticket.
Was I scared? Somewhat, but I was used to racing sports cars doing just time trials. At that time most of my buds were racing sports cars.
So do you have a 35mm negative or slide? I can usually do my most creative work with film.
Grim:
My fastest speed on that bike was around 115 (or so) too, but for my purposes taking that picture 100 was fast enough and a nice, round number as well.
Nick:
Your brother's bike just took off, eh? That may be the way he tells it, but in my experience you have to twist the throttle. ;-)
Bob:
I took that picture in the late 90's, but appreciate your concern. At any rate, it was done on a desolate straightaway along I-90.
Shelly:
If the State Police clocked your friend's car at 105, maybe his speedometer was out of calibration. I was also clocked once doing 105, on that same bike, when the speedo indicated around 90.
I may still have the negative for that picture somewhere around "La Casa de Camo"...my "rambling estate".
ROTFLMAO! I remember you telling me about taking this picture, but this is the first time I've actually seen the picture. You daredevil, you...
Fastest I've ever been was on the back of a cute "fly-boy's" bike on a two-lane highway just outside of Grand Forks AFB, ND. It was my 21st birthday, yes there was alcohol ingested, and he leaned a bit so that I could see the speedometer. It was between the 140 and 145 marks on the gauge. It was a hot Summer evening in a rural area, and bugs were hitting my bare shins as the center line was a blur going past. A LOT of fun, but looking back...a really STUPID thing to do. Ah, youth... :-)
Do go as fast as you want to. I don't mind. You are of course responsible for any outcomes of your actions, though.
I've certainly done the same and it is a bit scary on a bike (but only if you think about it)! Kids these days run up speeds like this on crotch rockets along city streets all the time. It only takes a few seconds...
Hey Camo,
My fastest was 200 KPH on the Autobahn (about 124 MPH) in a 1996 Mercedes C-class. It felt like I was going to lose control so I didn't push it any harder.
Before that my best was 100 MPH in a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL (390 cu. in. engine, 4-barrel carb). Coulda done more, but I was running out of road and my 14-year old brother was in the car. (I know, that was kinda dumb, but hey... I was only 18 at the time and felt pretty invincible.)
My compliments. I don't think I'd have the guts to do it on a bike.
(:D) Impressed...
Bunny:
The fastest I've ever gone on a bike while taking a picture was 100 MPH, although I've gone faster with both hands on the handlebars. Going the speed that you mentioned under the influence of alcohol is certainly not a good idea, to say the least, but as you said: "Ah, youth..."
Beerme:
I don't go that fast anymore; the picture was taken in the late 90's.
Hawkeye®:
You're supposed to go that fast on the Autobahn...and as you probably remember, some curves require maintaining a minimum speed, lest you roll over.
Coincidentally, my first car was a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500...
You were (are?) a wild and crazy guy...I like that about you!
Bob:
Yeah, Steve Martin and I. ;-)
Oh, another thing: ELEVENTEEN!!!
(Haven't typed that in awhile...)
